Handbrake not detected in Assetto Corsa Rally

Activating the Handbrake in ACRally with x360ce


The purpose of the x360ce application is to emulate your USB device (the handbrake) as an Xbox 360 controller, which the game will recognize immediately.



1. Download and Preparation


Step 1: Download x360ce (64-bit Version): Assetto Corsa Rally is a 64-bit Windows application.

Step 2: Copy the Executable: Copy the downloaded file (x360ce.exe) directly into the game's root folder.

• Typical Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assetto Corsa Rally

2. Virtual Controller Configuration


Step 3: Run and Create Files:

• Execute x360ce.exe from the game folder.
• The first time, it will ask if you want to create the necessary files (such as xinput1_3.dll). Confirm Yes to all windows.

Step 4: Map the Handbrake:

• Inside the application, go to the Controller 1 tab.
• Locate the device that corresponds to your USB handbrake.
• Go to the 'Axes' or 'Triggers' tab and do the following:
  • Find the Left Trigger or Right Trigger axis.
  • Click the assignment button.
  • Engage your handbrake all the way. The program should detect the axis and assign it.

Step 5: Save the Configuration:

• Click the "Save" button to generate the configuration file (x360ce.ini) and the emulation file (xinput1_3.dll).
• Close x360ce.

3. In-Game Assignment


Step 6: Configure in Assetto Corsa Rally:

• Start the game.
• Go to Options > Controls.
• When you go to assign the Handbrake, the game will now detect it as the virtual Xbox 360 controller's trigger.
• Assign the control (move the handbrake).

Step 7: Check and Invert (if necessary):

• Once assigned, check the axis progression bar in the controls menu. If the bar is full when you DO NOT touch the handbrake, and it empties when you apply it, you must check the "Invert" option within the game's control settings.
